Being Enough!

Quotes can be incredibly powerful to us, especially during difficult times. They may be inspirational, motivational, or simply words that one can connect to. If you’re someone who uses social media, you likely see quotes used daily by your friends for various reasons. I often have my clients connect to quotes if it seems such an activity may be helpful to them. I’d like to touch on one that I have found to be helpful to not only myself, but people I have worked with in a therapeutic setting:

“You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there’s still going to be somebody who hates peaches.”

-Dita Von Teese

So often, I hear my clients struggling with issues related to self-esteem, confidence, negative self-talk, etc.

We live in a world where many people compare themselves to others multiple times a day- Every. Single. Day. This daily comparative mentality is toxic to personal growth and resilience.

We become too consumed with the judgment of others to bounce back from challenges or overcome difficulties.

This quote represents the idea that we will Never be “enough” for everyone.

You can try to be “perfect,” but it doesn’t mean every single person will like you, or the way you walk, talk, chew your food, or even breathe.

Rather than attempting to fix the apparent flaw they see, it seems to be more valuable to work on being happy with the peach we are.

Now, this doesn’t mean we can’t make changes because we want to- that’s completely different.

Making positive growth because You think it would be good for you is vastly different from changing yourself to fit someone else’s mold. I encourage you to think about this quote.

Ask yourself if this is something you struggle with.

Because of social media and having access to thousands of opinions in the palm of our hands, it is so easy to get caught up in what others have to say about you.

If this is something you’d like to address and work on, I’d be more than happy to help. Visit samnabilcounseling.com to book an appointment!
